Parisians have not always a good reputation. They are said rude and impolite. Knowing France since a long time, I must say that this is not true at all. Sometimes, the tourists have not a correct behaviour in the country they visit. And in France, it's a fatal error. Knowing this, you can easily avoid problems and meet only charming people all along your stay in Paris :
1 - Paris is a big town where people are stressed with noise, pollution and work. It's then hard for them to take the time to help you when they still have one hour of Metro to be back home. You are in holidays, they are not !
2 - Nevertheless, there is a first trick to get the parisians in your pocket : TRY TO SPEAK SOME WORDS OF FRENCH ! Four reasons for that :
- French people are proud and a bit chauvinistic. If you try to speak French, they will imediatly consider that you respect their Country and they will then try to help you and discuss with you.
- Never forget that a big majority of French people don't speak a word of english. Even if they want to help you, they can't if you speak english only.
- Never speak english at once. Even if the guy you speak to understands what you say, he will not answer and will maybe be rude with you. French people consider, and they are right, that they are not a british or US Colony. Some basic words like "Bonjour" or "Excusez-moi" are a good introduction.
- How would you consider a French guy coming to your Country and speaking you French directly to get an information ? Not very polite, No ?
To close this item, always think that outside Paris, people are less stressed and that many places in France have real spontaneous charming people. The inhabitants of the South-West of France, of Britanny and of Languedoc-Roussillon are very kind and always happy to discuss with foreigners.
