Paris has a village of Celtic
fishers as origin. The tribe of Parisii became established in the third century
before Christ on the island of the City (Ile
de la Cite), strengthened her and called it Lutece. In 52 before Jesus Christ,
Lutece fell into the hands of a first lieutenant of Jules caesar. The Romans
called it the "city of Parisii" (Civitas Parisiorum in Latin). The city was
strengthened and began stretching over the Left Bank of Seine: it is there that
were built the thermal baths near the arenae of Lutèce.
